The Ellypop Designs story

So how did this all start.....?

For as long as I can remember I have made things - from fabric, card, wool, old bits of anything. Anything could inspire me and seemed bound to come in handy sooner or later. I made my first gift for someone at three, my first skirt at seven, started embroidery in between! It was only a matter of time before I would end up creating a business from something I am so passionate about.

Turning ideas into reality

Ellypop Designs took a while to germinate. I have been dressmaking (and more) for what seems like forever and get a real buzz out of using bits and bobs that mean something to me. Using buttons from my grandma's button box on a new blouse feels really special, adding some old ribbon to the edge of a jacket means something. Re-using my husband's old chambray shirt to line a workbag - complete with chest pockets, just perfect for cottons and crochet hooks - gives me real pleasure. I joke that I have a 'thrift gene' but this cannot quite convey the satisfaction of making something unique for myself or someone I care for, or in re-using something to make a new, maybe more useful item that can be treasured all over again.

Having four children, and having made clothes and toys for them (and for other people's children long before this) I soon started getting requests from friends for something similar.  News spread and before long I had to decide to either stop spending all my spare time making things, or create more time and go into this properly. I chose the latter and the rest, as they say, is history!
